Whaaat?

That's what Brian said after I had plopped on our bed early one morning about a month ago and informed him, "I'm pregnant."

We weren't planning to get pregnant yet and he didn't even know I was taking a test so it was a little bit of a shock to be yanked out of a dream with the news.

I took the test because the day before my mom asked me out of the blue if I was pregnant. Assuredly I answered, "No, I am just recovering from the cold we have been fighting." But she planted a teeny seed of doubt, so, just to put it to rest, I decided to check.

Sure enough: preggers.

The first morning there were lots of mixed emotions. Ever supportive, Brian, even though he had only been in bed for a couple of hours, woke up to talk through our news before I had to head to work. We are now calling it our pleasant surprise.

It has been so different this time. With Magnolia, we had been waiting and planning for her. There was measured excitement and anticipation as the testing window approached. Then we took great pleasure planning how we would specially announce that we were pregnant to our friends and family. This time we just called or emailed family and have been nonchalantly telling friends as we see them. Sometimes we even have to remind each other that we're pregnant!

We have felt a little bad not giving this baby the same enthusiastic pre-birth introduction to the world. It's not that we're not excited; we are. We just have more going on this time. During the first trimester last time, I was on summer break. When I felt crummy I could just lay on the couch and eat whenever I needed to. This time I am working almost full-time and have a little one to care for when I get home. Most nights I barely make it through dinner and end up heading to bed with Magnolia around 7:30.

Thus the lack of blogging. We have so many posts in draft form. Check back often in the days and weeks to come as we catch up.

Congrats!! I've SO been waiting for this! (no--not waiting for news that you are preggy, although that is plenty exciting...just waiting for something other than the baby-eating-her-own-poop blog to be up!)
So...when are you due? We'll have kids about the same age, how fun! I hope you start feeling better soon!

WOW!!! Congratulations! I know the new baby will be loved just as much even if the pregnancy is more go-go-go with school and a baby at home to worry about. Can't wait to hear more news as this baby develops and grows and shows his/her in utero personality. :)

Very Happy for you guys! We really need to get together one day soon! Let our dogs play. He's only 7 months, but probably outweighs your dogs by alot. He's 92 lbs now. But we'd love to catch up with you guys, Scott talks about it all the time! We should make it happen!
Congrats - can't wait to hear more about this little one as s/he grows inside of you!

Sounds like your baby is already being prepared to be a middle child!

Bless you, seriuously, as you endure the first trimester while jugging being a mommy and teacher. I hope that your students have serious empathy and grace for you when the moments come that are hard to push through. I am so excited for you guys though! I think that brings the pregnancy count up to about 10 people I know. 'Tis the season!

I am so excited for you guys! two kids makes one seem like CAKE! :) wait...that was supposed to be encouraging but sounds more like a "WARNING!" :)

I can TOTALLY relate to the laid back sentiment. I was trying to be all clever when we found out with this one (#4) and Josh just said "just CALL your parents...you've already done this like a HUNDRED times!"

So we did. And got just as much of a reaction as we did with number 1, 2, and 3. :)

I SO love keeping up with you guys via blogs...thankgoodness for the internet and digital photography!! :)

Congratulations! That's exciting news! I'll be praying for you Shannon as you juggle teaching, first trimester, and a little girl on the go. You're amazing!

I have two questions for you:
1) How did your mom figure out you were pregnant?
2) How far along were you when you figured it out?

I am not sure how my mom knew. I was tired and not feeling super. I was also having a hard time breast feeding.

I think I was about 6-7 weeks. I never got my period back after Magnolia was born so we didn't really know how far along I was until my ultrasound.
